Dc Legends of Tomorrow Dont You Make Me Come Down Here Again
Alarm: This article contains spoilers from the season 7 finale of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, which aired Wednesday night.
The zany superhero dramedy'due south WWI-set season 7 finale revealed that the Scrubs alum has been cast as the time-traveling DC Comics hero Booster Aureate, which was heavily hinted in the character description that was released when EW bankrupt the news of his casting. In the comics, Booster Golden is a glory-seeking disgraced onetime athlete from the futurity who travels to the path with stolen applied science to make a proper noun for himself equally a superhero. (The character made his live activity debut in the finale of Smallville, played by Eric Martsolf).
The Legends cross paths with the roguish time traveler while trying to relieve Alun from dying, which is a stock-still bespeak in time that Booster is in charge of guarding. ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: I'm surprised no i on the squad mentioned their last trip to WWI in the flavor 2 finale in this episode.
PHIL KLEMMER: Yeah, seems a lifetime ago that nosotros did that. And actually, that was the virtually hard episode I've e'er written. And so personally, I can't believe that we actually would dare get back in that location again. The multiple Legends matter, that well-nigh broke my brain.
As you might expect, through the side door you'd least await it [to]. I but remember [co-showrunner Keto Shimizu] and I were on a telephone call with Kim Roberto at DC, and we were just talking about fun characters. I call up somebody threw information technology out there, of class never [imagining] in a million years would we get Booster Gold. And and so it felt like 15 minutes later, DC called united states of america back and was just like, "Hey, Booster's yours." And only you take a moment of being similar, "Okay, this is clearly a prank of some sort, because..." We were all silly and in disbelief and and then it just became a quest of finding an actor who was worthy of the graphic symbol.

Over again, you lot have these moments of non wanting to allow yourself to get your center set on someone like Donald Faison and we saw it taking shape and [couldn't] believe this [was] happening. And and then you take this moment of finally meeting the guy, and plain we're all super familiar with his work. He just hopped on a Zoom from... For any reason he was hiding in his married woman's closet. I think it had skillful acoustics or he was trying to avoid something else in the house. And you lot're like, "This guy is the all-time." This guy loves the show, loves the world. He's equally steeped in this stuff every bit any of us who've been working on the show for 7 years.
He but walked on set and immediately knew every single crew person'southward proper name. I showed upwardly for the second one-half of the finale and he already had these within jokes with everybody else. I started to go jealous [Laughs]. Information technology was exactly what nosotros needed to get through what information technology takes to shoot World War I, trenches, snow. Every bit it did in flavor 2, it was real snow, existent rain, real sleet. Expect, the bodies were fake, but other than that, it was very much a battleground. Why was Booster Gold on your mind to begin with? Were you but looking for a DC character to bring in at the terminate of the season? How did Booster end up fitting the needs of the story?
It'due south always the tonal fit and simply knowing, I don't know, at that place'southward just something and so lovable and unexpected. You only knew that he was going to work equally kind of a bit of the merry prankster, a bit of a BS artist. Just yes, it's also the bittersweetness of proverb bye to one character and getting to know another one. There's that moment where Nick Zano in the tenth scene in the finale… It actually does feel there is a passing of the torch in that moment.
Nick Zano's energy and Donald Faison's free energy, these are distinct performers and people. But I don't know, there is this tremendous loss with Nick Zano leaving and almost psychologically, you have to somehow [move forward]. We have the promise of a new character, a new dynamic, simply new stories. I don't know [if] that takes some of the sting out, but I got to say being at that place on Nick'south concluding day [was] really devastating to watch a cast and coiffure surround this guy who's so beloved. He's leaving on the all-time possible terms.

Just to ostend: If Legends is renewed for some other season, Nick won't exist returning as a series regular?
I mean, until he wants to and is ready to come back, for sure. That door'due south always open.
How did you lot make up one's mind that Nate leaving the team would besides mean losing his powers?
It was sort of still upward in the air until about the finish because all season nosotros've been sort of playing with the notion of whether he would move into the totem, whether Zari would move out and live in the weirdo pocket dimension with him, and how they could do this long distance thing. And we've sort of played [with] the long shadow of his father, the great man. Nate has that niggling scene with Zari in the penultimate episode just talking about his legacy and how he originally idea he was supposed to live upward to some Heywood model of virility and courage. And which ends in death in his dad's example and his grandfather's case, and I'g sure every other Heywood human died on a battleground or an outer space or in some heroic way. I guess we merely similar the thought that you don't have to cede, you don't have to die, [and] that y'all tin leave information technology all in the field in a manner that's not tragic. We wanted him to have some kind of sense of fulfillment that didn't mean that he was dead, and that y'all can be a man and a former superhero and y'all could alive a domestic life and that tin can be heroic as well.
When did you decide you want to finish the season with Sara's conflicting-powered pregnancy?
We liked it for a lot of reasons because I call up we were ready to unburden Sara of her conflicting powers and that was a convenient way to come up with information technology. And information technology'due south an apt metaphor of giving your life strength to your child, which regular humans do as well.
Just I retrieve if you recall the flavour started with Ava's ballsy meltdown when she sort of lays in the gravel and does a dirt angel on the footing when they kill J Edgar Hoover. Jes was delivering something that we had never seen earlier. I think Caity actually wanted her version of that scene, and we equally writers wanted to give it a bookend because Ava lost her stuff and Sara was there to prop her upwardly and it's only right. Relationships, it'due south constantly one person is pulling the other upwards. To simply see Sara Lance's version of an existential freak out… And I cannot believe Caity really surprised me. I couldn't be more impressed with her capabilities, but she did something in that scene that I've never seen her do earlier, and it's just so gratifying that for us.
And I think the style that it was written, Keto did a masterful job of that scene, but too Caity brought something to information technology elevated it from similar the normal soap operatic version of [when] somebody'south unexpectedly pregnant. There's one-act to it, but there's realness to it. It makes me very excited for next season. When Caity read that script and I saw that she called, I had this moment of being similar, "Oh no, I know she'southward got some trepidation about being significant [and] wondering, 'what does that hateful for me as an intrepid badass superhero infinite captain?'" In one case we assured her that we weren't looking to practice a familiar story I think that she actually, she gave information technology everything.
At this point, what can you say well-nigh this band of fourth dimension cops who have arrested the Legends and what'southward in store for them in a potential eighth season?
I tin't say besides much nearly them just because I haven't pitched the studio and network. By the fashion the calendar worked, nosotros didn't have our normal corporeality of time to sit around and pitch on the flavour to come just considering we wrapped earlier the holidays.
